Struggle with being socially awkward? You are not alone!

I have been sharing about my grief and love to share Q'isms – these are nuggets of wisdom Quintin most often when we gathered around the dinner table. One Q'ism that he often shared was how to create and carry a conversation with a person when you don't know what to say. I am sure this conversation prompt acronym wasn't his idea, rather he learned it somewhere and decided to pass it down and I am sure glad he did because it has not only helped me at times, but it has also helped my children in guiding them in conversation with others.

I don't know if you fell on my Crazy Busy Mama blog because you are struggling with grief too, or just happened on this blog post because of my Crazy Busy Mama recipes blog, but either way I am glad you are here. I am knew to this grief struggle, as I lost my sweet husband unexpectedly on April 9th 2024. That day marks the day my entire world came crashing down.

If you are new to this section of the Blog here is Quintin's Story and the events surrounding his sudden and unexpected death.

Have you ever felt this way in a social setting? No matter if you are out going or more of an introvert, I am sure you have experienced the uncomfortable lag in conversation. This awkward moment will be something everyone will encounter at one point or another, so I am sharing this Q'ism to hopes to help!

You will want to bookmark this post so you can remember these 4 ice breakers to use when you catch yourself in an awkward social setting.

The Q'sim acronym is F O R D

 F – FAMILY

Ask them about their family. Are they the oldest, middle, youngest, only child? Are they married? Do they have children?

O- OCCUPATION

Ask them what they do for a living. This always cultivates conversation.

R- RECREATION

What is it they like to do in their free time?

D- DREAMS

Are you going on vacation this summer? Or headed somewhere fun over the holidays ?

I love how easy this acronym makes this to remember.

When you use this FORD acronym it will allow you to cultivate conversations in a lot of different arenas allowing you the opportunity to a well cultured discussion.

The moral of the story is, people love when you invest in talking about them. So less of you, more of them is the mantra here. Also, to always say yes to opportunity, you may never get that chance again!

Make sure to hang on to these 4 ice breakers when you get stumped in conversation! Hope this Q’ism helps cultivate confidence in your future conversations.
