Back Story: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD, by the worst kids in the history of the world. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, is a children's novel that was written by Barbara Robinson in 1971. The novel tells a story of six misfit children who volunteer to star in their town's Sunday School Christmas Pageant who end up teaching the town the true meaning of Christmas.
So many are familiar with this classic story and many of us mama's have shared this inspiring story to our kiddos throughout the holiday season. Us mama's have been waiting for the release of this one for decades now!
If you are not familiar with the story, here is a brief synopsis.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson is a humorous, heartwarming story about the true spirit of Christmas. The story centers around the Herdmans, a family of six unruly, misfit kids who are notorious in their small town for causing trouble. The Herdman children—Ralph, Imogene, Leroy, Claude, Ollie, and Gladys—are loud, rude, and mischievous, stealing and bullying their way through life. Everyone avoids them whenever possible, especially at church, where they never show up. However, everything changes one year when the Herdmans unexpectedly decide to attend Sunday school.
The story is narrated by a young girl whose mother, Grace Bradley, is put in charge of the church’s annual Christmas pageant after the usual director breaks her leg. This year’s play is in danger of falling apart, especially when the Herdmans show up and volunteer for the lead roles. To the horror of the other church members, the Herdmans insist on playing Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men, and even the Angel of the Lord.
Despite the other church kids’ dismay, the Herdmans approach the nativity story with fresh, if unconventional, enthusiasm. Since they’ve never heard the Christmas story before, they react with astonishment to the hardships Mary and Joseph endured. They’re outraged at the lack of shelter for Mary and horrified by King Herod’s plans. Their innocence and genuine, if sometimes misplaced, passion begin to change the way others see the Christmas story, reminding everyone of the true meaning behind it.
As rehearsals proceed, the townspeople anticipate chaos and disaster. Yet, they slowly realize the Herdmans are bringing something unique and raw to the play. Although their methods are unorthodox—the Wise Men bring a ham instead of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and Imogene, as Mary, ends up with a tear-streaked face—this performance unexpectedly captures the vulnerability and emotion of the nativity. By stripping away the usual polished pageantry, the Herdmans highlight the struggles and hope in the Christmas story in a way that feels real to everyone present.
In the end, the pageant is a resounding success, but not because of a perfect performance. Instead, it’s successful because it helps the congregation, and even the Herdmans themselves, to understand the meaning of Christmas on a deeper level. The story ends on a hopeful note, showing that compassion, understanding, and open-mindedness can change people in surprising ways.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is a touching, funny story that encourages readers to look beyond outward appearances and to find meaning in unexpected places. It’s a tale of redemption, kindness, and the transformative power of empathy—wrapped in humor and the holiday spirit. Through the Herdmans’ unconventional interpretation of the nativity, Robinson reminds us that Christmas isn’t about perfection or pageantry, but about love, acceptance, and seeing the world with new eyes.
On the BIG Screen: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever novel as been transformed into a movie and is a Lions Gate and Kingdom Story Company film directed by Dallas Jenkins creator of The Chosen and is Based on the book from Barbara Robinson.
Dallas shares, “I was BORN to make this movie” on Kingdom Story Company You Tube channel. In this passion filled video – HERE, Dallas shares his heart behind this project and being the executive producer why he was so passionate about why he wanted to be part of this film.
This is a must see film features Lauren Graham- as narrator, Judy Green- as Grace, Pete Holmes- as Bob Bradley, and a slew of young talent added to the cast list.
This film depicts many life lessons, but the one that really stood out to me is how
God Doesn't Call the Qualified, He Qualifies the Called.
God Doesn't Call the Qualified, He calls Qualifies the Called
Ever feel unqualified?? Yup me too, you’re not alone!!
This reoccurring life lesson in this movie is an inspiring theme for all. I have felt called in areas in my life especially as a mother, where I feel very unqualified. I can only imagine I am not alone in this feeling. The life lesson of “God Doesn't Call the Qualified, He calls Qualifies the Called”, is shown again and again in this movie through Grace and the Herdman misfits and so many others in the film it is likely to inspire you to step out in faith and become person who you have been created to be.
I talk a little bit about feeling this way, especially since the unexpected sudden passing of my beloved husband Quintin in this video below.
I am quite certain, we all have felt unqualified from time to time. There is no doubt this is exactly how Grace (played by Judy Greer) felt when she stepped in to the role of directing the Christmas pageant after an unforeseen circumstance, or how the misfit Herdman's felt stepping into the pageant roles. Especially with Glady's who is the youngest of the 6 and worst of all becomes the Angel of the Lord announcing the good news of Jesus' birth of the shepherds, serving as a symbol of the nativity story's central message in this heartwarming Christmas classic.
The Herdman's were the least qualified for these positions in the Christmas pageant, yet as depicted in the film they were the reason the community came together in unity throughout the holiday.
All About Perspective:
Isn't all about perspective?
By having the “worst kids in the world” play the angel, The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever emphasizes the universality of the Christmas message, reaching even those who might not traditionally be considered “church-going”.
Gladys' portrayal of the angel is particularly impactful because the Herdman children are known for their poor behavior, adding a humorous twist to the sacred announcement.
The Lord doesn't always call for those we think who are fit for the task. We are constantly looking to qualify others and even ourselves for roles and tasks with a checklist of accomplishments. However, God looks at it differently than we do. He looks at the heart. When the heart is positioned, He calls and when you step into that calling, He qualifies! I am so thankful for that, aren't you?
Get ready to be inspired this holiday season with a heart warming story of how God uses the seemingly unfit for the most incredible blessing. How God turns the ordinary into His extraordinary!

One of our family traditions is to bake a Christmas shaped bread – we’ve done Santa heads, reindeer, snowman, etc.. And, we always watch Rudolph together with hot chocolate.
This blog definitely deserves a 5 ⭐ rating!
My favorite family tradition growing up was we would bake a lot of goodies and we would deliver a plate full of goodies to every neighbor on Christmas Eve.
When I was younger we use to get with my Dads family on Christmas Eve. One of the adults was appointed every year to read to us about the birth of Jesus then we would be led singing silent night while we held candles and just absorbed what Christmas really meant! Looking back it’s truly one of the biggest blessings of my life.
A tradition started with my littles when our life changed – was i would plan a mystery outing they would not know where we were going – i would give them clues and let them try and guess what we were doing!!! We did symphonies, live theatres, fancy restaurants, carriage rides in the snow, limo rides, visited “ The Ark “ in Kentucky, Kights under Louisville it was so much fun!! Now we stay in and have fondue Christmas Eve
Your blog post a 5 star ⭐️ I love following you so much! My heart goes out to you and your family. I too live in Missouri.
One of our traditions is making homemade peanut butter fudge.
We love our yearly Christmas Eve Candlelight service. My kids get new ornaments each year. When they leave the house, they have a set of ornaments for their new home.
One of my favorite traditions is giving each child an ornament that represents their year- and reading this book aloud! I always get so tickled over the Herdmans!!
I love this idea I’m going to start doing with this with my kids this is so neat it was a great comment
My children are now grown. But we started a new tradition with my trains loving grandson. We have brunch by the Christmas tree at Macy’s in Chicago, visit Santa, enjoy all the Macy’s windows, then head over to Union Station to ride the Polar Express train. 🎄🚂
Well…Merry early Christmas to the entire Conaway Fam 🎄
One of our most favorite Christmas traditions is to drive around looking at Christmas lights and then the kids open up their gift of cool pjs, candy popcorn and a new blanket for Christmas Day ❤️
Have the best holidays!!
My favorite would be the Christmas Eve candlelight service. We go out for a nice dinner with grandparents and family and then we all go to church. Nothing like Silent Night in a darkened room with candlelight. It calms this frazzled Momma’s souls for a while and sets my heart back and reminds me it isn’t about having it all perfect for Christmas day – it’s all about Jesus and His great love for all of us. Have not stopped praying for your sweet family.
My family dresses up in matching pajamas and takes a trolly ride around the city of Chicago downtown on Christmas Eve!
We love our traditional Christmas Eve family dinner. Then we listen to music while baking cookies, mini breakfast loafs & muffins for Christmas morning and play board games until we all tire. Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🎅🤶☃️
We would do this when i was a little girl – i also took mine when they were little i hope they continue on the tradition
I was referring to going out and looking at Christmas lights – i forgot to mention that 🙄
Our family loves to go look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve! While we are out Santa has delivered matching Christmas pjs! We quickly change into pjs and my husband lights the fireplace and grabs his Bible. We sit cozied up to the fire, in the glow of the Christmas tree lights, while he reads the birth story of Jesus. Afterwards, we take communion together as a family. It has become our most treasured tradition ❤️
When my girls were young we loved to watch old Christmas movies together. Now today, they do this with their children.
A favorite tradition …..y Grandmother would have a Christmas party just for the grandkids! It would be on a Saturday, and we couldn’t be more excited every year! Grandmother and Granddaddy prepared all week for us, putting the tree up and having all the ornaments ready for us to hang, eating and drinking Christmas Punch! Presents and fun! I cherish those memories, it was just being together. I miss that.
When I was a kid, my parents would tell us a time we could be up on Christmas morning… But we couldn’t set an alarm. And if they heard my brother and I, they would add 15 minutes on to our time before presents. He and I would sleep with walkie talkies so we could talk to each other without Mom and Dad knowing. Lol!
A Christmas Tradition: Well we have been married for 13 years and we try to go see The Billy Graham Library at Christmas, they have such a beautiful place. They have a live nativity and you can go on a carriage ride. And while there we can get a few gifts/stocking stuffers. And let’s not leave out getting to eat at their little diner and having a Billy Frank Hot Dog 🌭.
I Love Snowmen. I have a huge collection of Snowmen Ornaments Decorations. I also have a huge collection of Snowmen Shirts. My Late Husband used to tease me to no end about them. Yet a year he would get me a new Snowman Decoration or Ornament and a new shirt. My Family and Friends have helped me keep that tradition alive.
My Christmas 🎄 tradition that I remember, is on Christmas eve we would have snacks, have a warm meal and open 1 Christmas present 🎁 if we had family spend the night, all children would sleep together on the floor in sleeping bags 🎒 and Christmas 🎄 morning we woke up to stocking stuffed with lots of goodies. We would have breakfast and then open our 🎁 presents.
We decorated together as a family with Christmas music playing, cookies baking and lots of laughter. We also read the story of Jesus’ birth from Luke. We’d also go to see Christmas lights together as a family. I love traditions.
Every year we team up and decorate Christmas cookies and then post them on Facebook for people to vote on. It’s so much fun and competitive in our family and as the grandsons get older (they are only 3 & 5 right now) I look forward to seeing their creative sides come out as they decorate their own cookies!
Our fsmily tradition for a number of years is to go to the Local community theater to watch The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! We are excited about seeing it on the big screen this year.
We all go together the Friday after Thanksgiving to the tree farm and cut our own Christmas tree. Have been doing it for over 40 years. Three generations!
Our family has read Beat Christmas Pageant Ever for years and would love to see the movie!
I give your blog post 5 stars! I love it! Our Christmas tradition is after eating with our family my husband reads the Christmas story before opening gifts! Merry Christmas 😘
Hi, all the family comes home with dinner & games then before presents are open we read the Christmas story every one taking turns reading different verses till the story is read ♥️🙏
It started with my great nieces and now added my granddaughters. We always make a Christmas craft for them to take home.
Our annual Christmas tradition is to take hot chocolate in thermal cups and drive around different areas of town and look at the Christmas decorations !
I definitely give you a score of 5 !
Our community has a tree lighting the evening after Thanksgiving. We all bundle up to drink hot cocoa and watch the skit, listen to the high school choir sing and watch the tree lighting. My grandkids are now becoming a part of the tradition.
At Christmas our parents were faith missionaries to Mexico. As kids growing up we learned to give give and give to others in need. Growing up my husband and I have taught our daughters to give give give. Each year we look for needy families and we buy them gits and food for Christmas. This is our way of sharing love to those who may not have much. Every year we are blessed so much by giving to others. Am so thankful for our parents teaching us to help those in need.
We always get out tree on Black Friday and spend the day decorating, watching White Christmas, and drinking hot chocolate.
Favorite tradition is going out to eat for a delicious dinner and going to see Christmas lights.
The Best Blog award goes to crazybusymama.com

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is letting the kids open one gift on Christmas Eve. It’s silly really, because it’s always the same gift each year and they know it. It is a matching pair of Pajamas that way everyone is matching on Christmas morning.
One of our favorite Christmas traditions is singing Happy Birthday to Jesus on Christmas morning before any presents are opened. It always reminded my kids what Christmas is truly about.
One of our family traditions is to read the CHRISTmas story in Luke 2 because that is what ithis time of year is all about…Love came down to redeem us! I pray for you daily as I am still struggling with the death of my mom 2 years ago. May the God of All Comfort (II Cor. 1:3-5) be with you this season. 🌲 🎁
Definitely a five-star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Blog Post!!!
Best Christmas tradition we had was when I was growing up in the ’60s my father bought us a silver art deco Christmas tree. We decorated it with pink shiny ornaments and then he put his Lionel train tracks around the tree so it would drive circular under there. If that wasn’t enough he then put a multi-colored light disc that would shine on the tree and be just something crazy psychedelic. It was the tackiest thing ever but I love that the best and to this day I miss him and I miss that tree.
One of my family’s traditions is making a variety of cookiee and making plates to give away to the neighbors and friends. Seeing the smiles on their faces is priceless.
Christmas morning starts with a big breakfast, opening gifts with my now grown kids and then it’s a lazy day of Christmas movies . For dinner we splurge with beef tenderloin that my hubby fixes up in the smoker . It’s a magical day with family.
To select 1 favorite tradition is hard… my kids seem to like grab bags that we do with extended family; not sure if it’s the ability to steal that makes it exciting or what it is lol
We add a ornament to our Christmas tree every year from somewhere or something we did as a family. You definitely get 5 stars!
We play find the elf game (which is an elf body with Gramps face on it) it is a laminated piece of paper. I hide it and whoever finds it gets 20.00. The kids love this kick off to Christmas Eve and a great way to remember Gramps who loved Christmas.
Then we gather around and read the Christmas story like Gramps used to do with us.
This will be the first year for four new grands we have been blessed with in 2024. Hopefully, they will always know how much Gramps loved Christmas 🎄.
My son and I watch Christmas movie every year together since he was a baby🎄
Lori your blog is definitely 5 star! We love to gather the whole family and friends and have them over to our home for a visit with Santa. My mom started this tradition with our kids and friends and now that she has passed we continue the tradition in her honor! P.S. she was Jewish. We grew up in Liberty and had many Morman friends and they called her Sister Le Fever. It was and is a tradition loved by many. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
My husband of almost 40 years plus 7 years of dating. Also high school
Sweethearts has give me an ornament for all of those years. He has passed that tradition on in purchasing one every year for all 10 of our kids, their significant others and children and our granddaughter!
So many traditions…putting up the tree and decorating with ornaments from my grandmas and the kids all have ornaments from my parents each year. Going together to look at Christmas lights. Family taco bar at my parent’s house! Christmas Eve candle light serving and singing Silent Night! Making goodies and delivering to neighbors, coaches, teachers and friends! Matching Christmas pjs!
Hope to win
One our family tradition is getting pajamas Christmas Eve. We have been doing this since our kids were born and still doing it as they are adults now.
Our family tradition is to do an advent every day of December. Sometimes it’s fun things but the ones that my boys love more than anything are picking up trash at our church, ringing the bells for Salvation Army, making gingerbread houses with friends from school that don’t know Jesus so we can talk to them and their parents and have Christmas music on too.
When my kids were little one of my favorite traditions was when we made and decorated a birthday cake for baby Jesus!!
My favorite Christmas tradition is coloring on Christmas Eve. Every year we grab a coloring book and color a Christmas picture. Little did I know that they would become treasures years later when people passed away. You just never know how something so simple as coloring could become a treasure years later, not to mention all the memories of coloring with my family and friends!
When I was growing up, we would go to Christmas Eve services as a family.
Remember the excitement of getting ready for bed in anticipation of the next morning. My Dad would read the Night Before Christmas as we sat on his lap. When my parents were killed in a car accident when I was 16, these memories/ traditions have stayed with me forever. Merry Christmas and may you and your family be blest.
One of our family traditions at our Mom’s house is singing the “Twelve Days of Christmas “. We would put #1-#12 in a cup and divide up into groups to equal 12 days. Then you would draw from the cup and whatever number you drew was the day that you would have to sing. We laughed having to do this every year but our Mom loved it. My mom was put on hospice back in September and passed away on September 22. The last few hours of her life we got together as a family circled her bed and we all decided to sing the Twelve Days of Christmas in honor of her. Going to carry this tradition at my house this Christmas in honor of her !!💜💜
We always take the kids and grandkids on a Christmas experience . The past few years we have rented a train car for us all and Santa comes through and we have hot chocolate and snacks. We sing Christmas carols and take lots of pictures! Some of my favorite are of my dad on the train before he passed away In January one year. Make memories while you can!
We would get together at my mom-in-laws with about 30 of us & eat, open presents, and enjoy the kids & family fun! Games were played too…cards or whatever we brought to share! Kids had their own play area upstairs with toys!!
We would go to a local establishment to look at the Christmas lights every year during Thanksgiving weekend to usher in the Christmas season.
Our daughter and son-in-law started a tradition with their daughters that every day of December the girls get to open and read a Christmas themed book. We have fun trying to find new Christmas books each year.
Having the family all gather at my grandma’s house. Have brunch and gifts then have a visit from Santa and then a roast dinner. We always watch A Christmas story on repeat Christmas too.
Hi Lori! I’m from Missouri too and I’m also facing my first Christmas without my husband. We will continue our traditional Christmas morning breakfast. Biscuit and gravy casserole!
Christmas Eve Service, delicous dinner at Momx after, opening d some presents while listening to Christmas music and finishing with yummy dessert! Next morning to our house for Christmas casserole breakfast and Santa!!
We make a birthday cake for Jesus!
My kids and grandkids cone every year to make goodies. My extended family & I go on a hayrack ride in our VERY small community and sing Christmas carols to all the neighbor. We end the trip at the cemetery wishing my oldest brother (deceased 1974) a happy (December) birthday. This keeps his memory alive for my immediate family and our kids & grandkids have grown to “know” him through these memory making trips. ❤️🙏🏻🎄
We love decorating cookies each year with the grandkids.
My favorite family tradition is our Saturday after Thanksgiving tree trip. We go to our local tree farm and the whole family, six kids, three in-loves, and now our first grandbaby, pick out and cut down our family tree. Everyone takes a turn cutting. Then we play and enjoy the farm before heading home unloading the tree and watching Christmas vacation while eating popcorn and cookies in front of the fire! It’s my favorite day of the year outside of Christmas day!
On of our favorite Christmas traditions is having a cookie baking day with family then passing them out!
One of our Christmas traditions is making my Grandpa’s Cherry Bounce. It has to sit for 6 months so we Start it in June. We all make a toast to Grandpa Baumer who we lost in 1990. We carry on his tradition and all the memories we had with him.
Merry Christmas to All!
One of the Christmas traditions that I started with my adult children are “themed” boxes in addition to just the usual presents they get. For example, my oldest loves sleeping beauty so last year I bought a sleeping beauty record off ebay and also found a sleeping beauty alarm clock on ebay. Then I got a sleep mask, a sleep shirt that said “just let me sleep,” a tiara (lol), and sleeping beauty mug, some decaf coffee and few other little trinkets. On the outside of the box I write clues and they have to guess what their theme is. I’ve done Big Foot, Friends, Baking, Sports, Buc-ees, Ohio State, Halloween (yes for Christmas), Crime Junkie, Goosebumps….. just to name a few. The kids look forward to it each year.
We always make Peanut Butter Balls ❤️❤️
We love to provide groceries and presents to families less fortunate…the BEST thing we do!! Love it!
We love to drive around looking at Christmas lights, celebrating the birth of Jesus, and watching the boat parade on the river!
We love playing family fun Christmas bingo for prizes and gifts cards.
We always make an angel food cake for Jesus. The kids are in the church Christmas Eve program and then we have family over for chili and presents.
One of our favorite traditions every year is to watch our hometown parade of lights. It takes place at nighttime and all the floats are decorated in Christmas lights. It’s like something out of a hallmark movie. I look forward to it each Christmas.
We have a few different traditions, but one that has quickly become my favorite.
Is taking my kids early in the morning (still in our Christmas pajamas ) to the downtown square to see the lights before everything gets busy.
And then grabbing hot chocolate afterwards, going home and watching Christmas movies.
Our Christmas tradition is reading the verse Luke 2; 6-7. The entire family listens as the youngest in the family reads to us about the birth of Jesus! Then, we gather around the table holding hands and praying before we eat together! To God be the glory…For He is whom all blessings flow! Merry Christmas to the Conway family, and to Quinton in Heaven, I know you watch over your family, and I know this year at Christmas is hard for them, show them that you watch over them , just so they feel you with them a little more ❤️
Every Christmas Eve we would go outside with the kids. Their grama would have little bottles filled with glitter and they would sprinkle it all over the ground so the reindeer would know where to land. The kids absolutely loved it! And grama and papa would have glitter in the entry way for months! Hahaha!
Making anise cookies has been our long standing tradition. From great grandma to present day, it’s not the holiday until the cookies are made!!
It is making candy cane cookies from the old Betty Crocker cookbook.
We have many Christmas traditions, but I love the simplicity of sitting together Christmas morning and reading the story of Jesus as a family. It puts everything into perspective and quiets the soul from the hustle and bustle that can become Christmas.
One of our traditions is drawing for stockings. Our children, their spouses and me and my husband draw names to fill stockings. This is always fun stuff and everyone has an unexpected “Santa”.
One of our Christmas traditions is decorating Christmas sugar cookies with our 3 young girls every year. Another favorite is candle light Christmas Eve service at church.
We would always make a Happy Birthday Jesus cake for Christmas. Still make it to this day. It’s my favorite tradition.
We always love driving around to all the Christmas light displays, Journey to Judea when we are lucky enough to get tickets and the Overland Park Arboretum Luminary walk.
Since 1990 I have made an elaborate gingerbread house. As the grandchildren came along they started making one too. We make trees, ponds, characters and so much more! It’s a fun tradition!!
Always watching Christmas Movies! As a child, the original Miracle On 34th Street. As an adult, 24 hours of A Christmas Story.
My favorite is making gingerbread houses with my daughters and husband. We ALWAYS carve time out of our busy schedules to do this.
My favorite memory is backing cookies and bread on Christmas Eve with my grandma. I hope to keep this tradition going with my 8 year old granddaughter Caroline. My favorite bread was banana nut. When I smell it it brings back those special Christmas Eves as a little girl!!
We are a part of a wonderful group of friends who are more like family. There are 5 couples. The husbands have been friends since middle school and they are almost 50. The wives have now been friends for about 25 years. For the first round of children, everyone had a child within a year and then it happened about two years later with the second round of children. We have a longstanding tradition of taking the kids caroling on Christmas Eve morning to visit nursing homes, great grandparents, shut-ins, etc. and eat lunch at a local, hole-in-the-wall restaurant in which the 20 of us pretty much fill up. It’s amazing, and I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything!
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Blessings to you always! 🙏❤️
1.Homemade blueberry pancakes at brunch
2.Birthday cake for Jesus and we sing Happy
Birthday.
3.A family photo with funny wearable props.
These are traditions and we keep them going even tho the funny guy/pancake maker himself (my dad) passed away. 💝
My best Christmas memory happens every year at Midnight Mass. The most beautiful service ever and seeing the live Nativity and our amazing church and all the parishioners celebrating our Savior’s birthday. It doesn’t get any better than this !
My husband and I live 1100 from family. Our favorite tradition is facetiming our grands Christmas morning and watching them.open our gifts.
Thank you for the opportunity to win.
Each Christmas I make some family favorites; fudge, peanut brittle and seasoned oysters crackers. I usually make extra to gift to others.
We make all kinds of Christmas cookies and goodies in the week leading up to Christmas. We always attend Christmas Eve services at church, and we always have a breakfast casserole and oatmeal with apples, raisins, cinnamon and brown sugar on Christmas morning. We have a big Christmas dinner, too, that usually prepare on Christmas Eve, and we just heat up leftovers. That’s easiest for us, since we have 15 people coming and going.
Our Christmas traditions start with Thanksgiving Day I make a big traditional turkey dinner and in the evening, we watch Christmas Vacation and The Family Stone. Then in the weeks leading up to Christmas we make Coconut Balls, Tiger Butter, Peanut butter Balls (these are family recipes we’ve been making them for 30+ years the torch was passed to me from my husbands Grandmother when we were married two years) leading up to Christmas Eve, we have dinner and open our new PJ’s, we have passed the Christmas Day gifts and lunch early dinner to our oldest daughter due to she has children and this way we all meet at her house so the Grands can stay home all day 🙂
One of my favorite traditions is my kids and all their cousins act out the Christmas story, in full costume, on Christmas Eve. We also read a the Bible from creation to the birth of Jesus, a little each day, during the whole advent season. There’s a chocolate for each kid (6 in my house) for each day of advent that we read from the Bible too.
I’ve been a 4th grade teacher for 35 years. Over twenty of those years I’ve read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It’s a sweet tradition in my classroom. My students have loved it every year! Some have never heard the Christmas story, so it’s an extra special read for them.
Before opening gifts on Christmas morning. We place baby Jesus in the manger and sing Happy Birthday!
My daughters and I start decorating early in November so that we are done before Thanksgiving. Love the Hallmark feel in the house… the movies, the shopping, the wrapping…. We get to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere all thru til January. It truly is a magical time of the year.
I give your blog post 5 stars. I didn’t see where to rate it at!!
Our FAVORITE Christmas Tradition is called the Giving Manger. The set came with a book, wooden manger, straw pieces and a clay Baby Jesus. Every time someone serves one another in our family or someone in our community, we put a straw in the manger. On Christmas Eve we talk about the serving opportunities we had during the season and admire our manger full of straw. Then, one of the kids places Jesus in the bed of straw. My now teenage boy even races his little sister when Christmas season begins to see who can be the first to put straw “in the manger” It is Priceless! My favorite tradition. I don’t remember the names of the two mamas who made this, but it can be found by searching The Giving Manger on social media. It is truly so special to watch your kids excited to serve one another, even if its just making another family member’s bed. ❤️
One of my favorites Christmas memories my mini schnauzer Lexie found her presents 🎁 under the tree she had her head in the bags pulling out her toys. CHRISTMAS PRESENTS were her favorites!
One christmas tradition is me and my son would always go to a christmas movie on the night after thanksgiving ,tgen christnas cookie baking and seeing christnas lights…christmas vigil in church christmas eve
My favorite memories are simply the gathering of family & friends. ❤️
One of my favorites starts on the first Sunday of Advent with an advent wreath. As a kid I learned a special song and sing it every night at dinner of Advent while lighting the candle(s). So every Advent I video and send to my kids who share with their family. They think I am corny but funny thing they talk about it every year!
Hugs and love, Lori to you and yours!
One of our favorite traditions is Theme Christmas. For Christmas Day my sister, who hosts, picks a theme and we create the menu and attire around the theme. It usually has something to do with that year. This year we are having French Christmas because of the Summer Olympics. We have had so many fun Christmas Days doing this. Some other themes we have done are, Las Vegas, Christmas Vacation, Football Tailgate, Mexican Christmas. The list goes on.
I grew up with very little. We always made the best of everything we had. So at Christmas time I taught my kids to give a toys, mittens, hats, and scarves to the needy. Even when they had little and questioned me about this tradition. I would always teach them what Christmas was all about Jesus’s birthday and being with family. Have a very merry Christmas.
Our families favorite Christmas tradition is going around on Christmas Eve and look at all the Christmas lights .
Our Christmas tradition is making cinnamon rolls and caroling around the neighborhood! Xxoo Nettie
I too lost my husband, 3 years ago and have been trying to make some new traditions to mix with the old. I have 3 daughters and love kicking off the season the day after Thanksgiving with some early morning shopping, putting up the tree and setting up the Christmas Village that my daughters bought me last year. We share stories from the holidays over the years and make plans for weeks ahead. Baking, hot cocoa and general shenanigans ensue!
I have many siblings and every year my dad, obsessed with A Christmas Story, would play that movie the whole week leading up to xmas. The first time we all watched together, christmas eve. ALWAYS christmas morning we watch the parade.
We have created a Family Festivus! It is an evening filled with food, games, a gingerbread house competition and a white elephant gift exchange. It is a holiday event that we all look forward to each year. So many laughs & fantastic memories!

One tradition our family has had for around 25 years, is every Christmas eve, we go pick up my mom (Nanny) at her house, fix a thermos of coffee, grab any goodies we’ve baked, and ride around looking at Christmas lights for a few hours!! My mom who just turned 80, is already looking forward to it again!❤
Absolutely LOVE ❤️ your blog post!! Hands down, a 5!!!!!!
We have a family advent tree that has been around since I was a young child. My mother made it for my brothers and I and since I married 1st I received it. I kept the tradition going for all and made replicas for my brothers and their wives for their weddings. It has been a sweet tradition to raise my 3 boys and now their wife/fiancee/girlfriend and granddaughter enjoying this special part of Christmas together! I am working on new trees for the boys and families! Family traditions are wonderful!
I just told the grandkids today when the movie is here, we are going! Its tradition on Christmas Eve is for me to have a treasure hunt for the grands. They find one present each but the fun is the search!

We enjoy going to the Nutcracker Ballet every year around Christmas. We attend church together on Christmas Eve and come home for Christmas treats. When my children were younger we would have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY cake for Jesus with singing, candles and all.
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is decorating a Gingerbread house. When my girls was little, they would request Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas CD. We would dance and sing around the kitchen while decorating the ginger house. Now they both are grown and have their own lives going. It’s hard to get everyone together. It’s definitely a transition.
My favorite Christmas tradition is our feast of the seven fishes dinner. This used be hosted by my mother, but we have been hosting since 1995. I prepare the fush, then we go to church and come home to fry fish enjoy it and one another. It is my favorite day of the year!
We always attend the Christmas Eve service at church, and then we go to Waffle House for dinner afterwards. It fuels my husband and I to stay up late wrapping Christmas gifts.
Our family Christmas tradition is filling of the Stockings. Everyone buys one gift for each stocking. Can be whatever you choose. Then on Christmas morning people are allowed to look in their stocking whenever they get up. The variety of items one finds in their stocking is usually pretty interesting. We also have an extra one we fill and we give that to someone who needs some Christmas cheer.
Merry CHRISTmas to you and your family.
Forgot to rate your blog. I give a 5. I have enjoyed watching your blogs and responding when you share a recipe back on my messenger. So easy to keep them for use. You are so down to earth and i can relate as i was widowed very suddenly at age 26 and with 1 son. So my heart goes out to you. I wrote a t=adition on another comment.
I’ve made fantasyfudge with my mom ever since I was like 7, I’ve continued thd tradition in my house now for several years (now49), blessed to still have her with me helping. Hoping to pass it on to my future daughter in love this year.

My grandmother started a tradition of giving us an ornament every year and I have done the same with my children. It’s a great way to start your first tree once on your own. She has now past on and my children are grown but the memories are there everytime I decorate my tree.
One of my many favorite traditions is growing up our family and extended families would get together at grandma’s for Rosette cookie making day. Brings such memories I’m able to continue doing with my kids.

The Christmas Season has so many loved traditions that it’s chard to pick just one! When I ask my boys about their favorites l, they both always reply with Cousin Christmas! This is a time when we get the extended cousins together – bake cookies, play games, make ornaments, and more importantly just enjoy one another! Some years we wear matching shirts or pajamas and other years we’ve been in the town parade together! I’m blessed that my boys have such great family traditions!
Forgot to add that I loved this blog post and I love the book, Best Christmas Pageant Ever! I remember reading it as a kid and I also read it to my children!

Our Christmas traditions with our grands are getting them ornaments every year representing their interests that year. We also do a big Christmas breakfast. Our girls used to spend the night Christmas Eve but now that they gave their own families we have to respect that they want to have their own traditions (BOO😂). My son is on the autism spectrum and for several years now, we spend many evenings leading up to Christmas driving around different neighborhoods looking at & for Christmas yard inflatables. He loves it & I have grown to as well.
Our favorite was getting a new ornament each year that represented something that pertained to my kids lives. We now carry that on with grandkids and my tree is full of wonderful memories.
Out family tradition is to pick a movie and go to a late show on Christmas Day after dinner.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lori is so sweet and helpful. I read this book years ago. I’d love to see the movie. She does an excellent job with her posts. I enjoy going to my Aunt Caroline’s and Uncle Tommy’s house for Christmas. We have chicken soup and I visit with my cousins. 💜
We all lift our glass and say Merry Christma and click ach other’s glass..we then say a prayer before everyone runs off with their plate..lol
Hi!!!! I love your posts! Our family likes to pick a different country’s cuisine to try and make for our holiday meal. It’s lots of fun and get to try something different rather than our traditional turkey dinner.
Our favorite tradition is watching Christmas movies too. Last year we watched one every weekend and had food themed to the movie. My daughter is 3 and watches Home Alone all year round.
Decorating our Christmas tree and eating Long John Silvers while watching a Christmas movie
Our tradition is to read the real story of Christmas on Christmas Eve❤️
We would attend Christmas Eve service then come home and eat tamales and chili. We’re in the south so tamales are a huge thing at Christmas! Then we’d open one present. My kids loved this and have now passed it along to their kiddos. The other thing I’ve done is an ornament (or two) each year for memory sake. Another tradition I hope will continue to be passed down. ❤️
We make Pierogies every yearon Christmas Eve. A tradition started by my grandmother years ago after her in-laws immagrated here from Poland.
My grandparents came from Poland also to new york.

My family gathers together in our pjs with the tree lit and the lights dimmed down and read the book ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. It was a book given to us from my parents to create a tradition. Thanks for being amazing and inspiring me with your posts.
My parents always made Christmas so special for us. My favorite part, and maybe the simplest, was the cute touches put on presents. They were just always wrapped so nicely.
Cookie baking day! Dedicate 1 day everyone picks a cookie and we bake all day and hand out cookies to neighbors, friends and family! This Christmas will be out 17 year!
One of our favorite traditions has become the white elephant exchange at my mom’s home on Christmas Day with the siblings & their families. My kids are now in their twenties and pick out the funniest gifts. There always one gift that someone purchased that seems to be everyone’s favorite and gets stolen by another gifter. It’s loud and funny and so much fun.
Christmas pjs and Christmas books for bedtime! After looking at lights of course!
Christmas Eve our 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren along with spouses and friends meet at our house for food, gift exchange and fellowship. Some will spend the night.
We go look at Christmas lights around our town and go to the Christmas parades
A Christmas tradition we have is to go visit dad at work (my husband is a police officer) and then go to the movies. We do this every holiday he works.
When the kids were little I felt like they were missing something big because he has to work on most holidays, but as they got older I realized the traditions we’ve made are unique and special. We love visiting daddy at work and then we pass the time by doing something that we enjoy- a movie!

Lori, I love that you’re a part of my life. So glad I found you along the way!
One of our traditions is playing fun and goofy games together. I love hearing everyone laughing and cutting up with each other. I need to start thinking about what games we’re going to play this year!
I’m excited about this movie!!
When I was a little girl my mom was single raising three kids. We did not have money for gifts but she was a great baker so we would spend a Saturday baking goodies and rolls and then we would deliver the plates to our neighbors and friends. We would often carol as we knocked on doors. As a kid this was fun and delicious. My siblings and I have carried this tradition on even after my mom passed away in 2017. Our children look forward to “Baking day”. It is one of the best traditions we have.
My family has made almond flavored sugar cookies for 65 years! Now my grandchildren come and use the cookie cutters and all the sprinkles they can get on them! What a wonderful mess!

We make candy and watch A Christmas Story. But most of all worshipping the birth of my Savior Jesus Christ and spending time with family
When my son was little, I used to kiss his cheek with red lipstick, then make Santa footprints with baby powder coming from the fireplace. He thought Santa had come to his room and kissed him! Even before he would run to the Christmas tree, he would go look in the mirror to make sure Santa had kissed his sweet little cheek!! One of my most cherished memories of Christmas with my son♥️💯
We watch movies the weeks leading to Christmas! Christmas Vacation, Elf, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever are just a few of our favorites. When I taught 8th grade English, the book was always one I read to the class the week before Christmas break started! Thank you for this opportunity!
My girls & I bake & decorate christmas cookies with my Mom’s every year. We also go see a park of christmas light displays on New Years Eve with my MIL every year. We love the holidays together as a family!
We decorate Christmas cookies every year together as a family and now with our grandchildren too!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Breakfast on Christmas morning and a movie in the evening. I started this when my 4 kids were young because I was a single mom and we do not do an extended family gathering on Christmas day. I wanted my kids to have family memories to cherish on this day. This tradition is still going 20 plus years later.
Our Pastors wife used to read this story to my women’s group every Christmas. We would laugh and cry, and of course it made us all get into the true spirit of Christmas 🎄
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is every Christmas Eve, we go to the local small town theater & watch the airing of Its a Wonderful Life! We’ve been doing this since my oldest was a baby! 9 years now! It’s their favorite tradition, & mine & my husbands also!
Five stars for sure.Love your transparency and your love and faith in our Lord. Even as you go through the loss of your husband. One of our favorite traditions is hide the pickle (a ornament)🎄

We can’t wait to see this movie!
My family loves making Christmas cookies together.
My favorite Christmas Tradition is decorating the tree as a family. They take turns placing the star every year. Our girls are getting older, now 16 and 13, so some things they have aged out of, but we will keep this going as long as we can!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Our Christmas tradition is Christmas morning breakfast that everyone helps make. Christmas Day is relaxing and in jammmies longer than usual and just enjoying the company and breakfast casserole.
My tradition began with my Mom as her birthday is Christmas so we always had a special birthday dinner on Christmas eve and everyone just be together… Now Mom has passed as well as Dad but I always have a place setting set out for the ones that can’t be there but I make a easy dinner and the kids open stockings and they now read tThe Night Before Christmas.
Ever since I was little my granny has made every grandchild felt mats with glitter glue names and lace trim edges. We place them out the night before Christmas with a slice of Jesus birthday cake. We’ve now continued this tradition with my kids (even though we don’t do Santa) we place our mats out and bake Jesus a huge birthday cake. It’s so wonderful!
My favorite Christmas Tradition is, growing up a Preachers Kid was amazing and life changing! We would and continue to all cook together, Birthday cake or dessert for Jesus, read the Christmas story from the Family Bible we still have to this day to read out of (I a. 62 tomorrow ha), then one my one open a Christmas present to enjoy and Thank the person who it was from. Always centering in God first, others next and yourself last.
I love and so appreciate your comments about God, your journey of losing Quintin and I pray for your precious family a lot! Wish we were closer, we would be great friends. Always an email or call away. Lord bless you all!
Our family tradition has always been to be with family and share the love of Jesus. We used to stay with my husbands parents every Christmas Eve that way we were all together Christmas morning bright and early. We did this every year with my husbands parents until they passed several years ago. Now our two kids are married and each have 2 children of their own. They all stay the night at our house and all come down the stairs together on Christmas morning to see what Santa has left behind. The excitement on their faces says it all. It’s my favorite time of year. God Bless you and your family.
Decorating the tree together and also sitting to look at all of the ornaments and counting from a distance how many we can find of whatever you pick: reindeer or angels or stocking, etc.
Our family tradition is playing games on Christmas day. It is very laid back, we have grazing boards and finger foods we change out during the day. Our children are all married and in their thirties and we have 6 grandkids from 1yr -21. We gave cookie decorating, gingerbread houses, saran wrap ball, Christmas pong and so much more. We have silly prizes and keep the fun going all day. It is so much fun to relax and play all day. After all of the holiday activities it’s just fun to hang out and make memories together.
We have a Christmas Eve Eve party and then everyone spends the night. I make cookie cutter pancakes for Christmas Eve morning.
Christmas Eve service!
I have given my girls who are now 26& 32 an ornament each year Christmas. I have continued this with my grandson’s as well.
We play Christmas music and put our tree up together drinking hot chocolate!
Trying to find new traditions, since my marriage of 30 years ended and my children are doing their own things. My parents and sister have moved on to Heaven (just a bit jealous!!) so figuring it out! Deep prayers for you Lori!
My favorite tradition is with my two grand blessings.
I carry $5.00 coffee gift cards with me and while shopping with them we find a retail worker that either gives great service or dealing with a difficult customer. We love to give them a gift card that reads:” Thank you for your smile today!”
This teaches my grandblessings it is always better to shine in difficult situations and you never know who sees your reaction and responses.
Our family tradition is to have a big party Christmas Eve with the whole family, then Christmas morning, when it’s just our little family, the kids know not to come down until I ring some sleigh bells and I take a picture of them coming down the steps. We then open gifts & have a big breakfast & a big dinner. Christmas Day is a pretty laid back day at our house 🧑🎄
One tradition we do with the kids is going to see lights around town. The local park decorates the pavilions in different themes, decorated by different business or organizations. We also make Christmas cookies or treats to give out to friends and family.
🙏♥️✝️ This year, we are starting a new family tradition of making healthier desserts…
Because everyone loves sweets & everyone could be healthier (& thinner! 😂)
Our does an Italian Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve then we gather around the Christmas tree and my husband reads a Christmas story. We open presents and enjoy the evening together watching Christmas movies.
Every year my husband and I watch It’s a Wonderful Life and the original Miracle on 34th Street. We live far away from family but keep in touch on Christmas via Face time.
One tradition that I do with all three of my girls is given them an ornament that represent their favorite item/thing during that time. My oldest is 21 and has a whole box already. I love this tradition and means so much to me.
My parents tradition was play pool table, darts, ping pong in the basement. When it came to dinner, we will talk about the past. I miss it ever since my parents passed away. I will always have those memories that I have told my kids about and I have a journal about it for my kids to pass it on to my grandkids one day.
One of my family’s favorite traditions for Christmas is we start decorating immediately after Halloween and we continue the tradition till today those memories will always be a part of me
5⭐️blog! Besides going to church together as a family on Christmas Eve, one of our favorite traditions is to cook a Christmas dinner together. We pick a different country & cook their cuisine. Great fun! Merry Christmas!🎄
Traditions used to be watching Hallmark movies and spending time with family. Now that my Husband passed away I try to spend quality time with my kids and hold them tight as much as I can when not having to work
Our Christmas tradition is cooking breakfast!! I’ve tried the fancy meals, but they always want to come back to breakfast. We celebrate a week before Christmas because both daughters have other places to go in Christmas. This way, I get them all day and not for 2hours and them being stiff and worn out from all the other places they had to go and eat. It has worked out beautifully. I still go up on Christmas Day to see what Santa has left!!! .
Our favorite tradition is going and picking out an ornament every year since our kids were born. Each person chooses their own except the babies first Christmas. Each year you get to see how your child’s likes change. Then when they move out they get their ornaments to start their tree in their home. Each year in permanent marker write the child’s name and the year on it.
We have always taken our kids to see the Nutcracker and out for a fancy dinner even when they were young. With our first grand baby now old enough to go and it melts my heart that our daughter wants to begin the tradition with him as well. We always take the kids to candlelight service on Christmas Eve to ensure we all turn our hearts to Jesus as well celebrate his birth. Love my family and this special
Time of year.
Every year I gather my GRAND children and we make Christmas cookies and have lunch together. Every year the number grows, it’s crazy but we love it.
We have all of the littles in the middle of the room on Christmas morning
Santa starts passing out presents then they tear into them all at one time 🥰
Complete chaos
But making memories!!!

One of our family traditions is that after we attend Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, we come home, get in pjs, and our children got to open one of their Christmas presents.
I would definitely give your blog a 5. Your online social presence is incredibly real.
Our favorite thing is going to see The Nutcracker stage performance every year. It just hits all the Christmas feels for us. Of course, watching every Christmas movie on every channel as well. Our favorite is A Charlie Brown Christmas. Who doesn’t love that?!
Wait! Can I give you 10 STARS?! ⭐️ PLEASE?! I LOVE your blog!
Baking christmas goodies and looking atlights with my kids who are all getting big and grown.
One of our Christmas tradition is go to candle light service then go back home and have desert and wassail. We would then talk, watch Christmas movies then go in and play the piano and sing Christmas songs.
Our family tradition is opening one gift (pjs) on Christmas Eve, then watching Christmas movies after Christmas Eve service at church. We’ve been doing it since I was a kid – so over 40 years now!!! We just add new family members (spouses & kids) to the tradition. ♥️
We go cut a tree down in the mountains the weekend after Thanksgiving. We also get hot chocolate and look at lights
On Christmas Eve we add ornaments from our loved ones who have passed
away. We share memories of each remembered person as we hang the ornaments on the tree. We call it our “legacy” tree. My married daughters have kept the tradition in their new homes. It helps us remember where we came from!
I’m loving to see you smile. I know this holiday season is going to be hard but I’m sending prayers to you and the kids.
My boys are 18 & 22 now but we always snack on Christmas Eve, watch a Christmas movie and open one present.
I make my kids pillowcases every year from fabric that represents what they were really into that year. I fill it like a stocking with small gifts including matching pajamas we wear on christmas day.
One tradition I love is that we do a “Jingle Bell Run.” I make homemade Christmas candies and put in tins. Then on Christmas Eve, I deliver to friends, people who need Christmas cheer, a family that may be having a rough year — a variety of recipients. I leave on their porch and ring the bell and quickly leave.
My family’s Christmas tradition has always been to make batches of home made cookies. And then send the batches of cookies to service people who are protecting our country.
My favorite tradition every year is reading the best Christmas pageant ever book! I cry at the end every time!! One of my absolute favorites! My family’s tradition is listening to me blubber about it once I’ve finished it. Merry Christmas!!
Hi Lori 🙂
One of our family traditions is reading the story of Jesus on Christmas Eve. Another tradition is having a snacky type dinner: crackers, black olives, different slices of cheese/meats, hummus and veggies. My babies love it because afterwards we make hot chocolate “to go” and look at Christmas lights!! (Btw the fall for Jesus mug is beautiful!!)
One of our favorite traditions is going to the Christmas tree farm and picking out a tree together. Then we decorate with ornaments representing lots of memories and tell their stories. This year we will celebrate with our first grandchild!
Instead of putting my kids’ names on each of their gifts, I wrap the gifts for each kid in a different color of wrapping paper. They don’t know which gifts are theirs until Christmas morning. It makes it fun, but my memory is getting not so great! 🥴😂 Haha! So I have to remember which wrapping paper goes to who! Haha!
Our Christmas tradition is putting up Christmas lights all month long(my mom would add more each day). Christmas Eve we go to Candlelight Service and go home to make Christmas cookies. Christmas morning we have a birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus and the kids get to blow out the candles(we put a candle for each grandchild now). Then open presents and have a big Mexican food lunch.
Getting together with family for dinner & getting the kids matching Christmas pajamas! Always watch a Christmas story on Christmas Eve!
On Christmas Day we watch It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s a tradition with my son’s wife’s family and they have included me.
On Christmas Eve we read the story of Jesus’ birth out of Luke and sing Christmas Hymns, like “Away in the Manger.” On Christmas day we eat homemade cinnamon rolls that are made from my mom’s recipe.
I love all your posts recipes and ideas. Plus I’m sharing a great loss( my son) due to sudden cardiac arrest this year. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and my son had found the magic and true meaning of Christmas with his wife and children. Also thinking my husband would live the smothered pork chop recipe above.
We have cinnamon rolls for breakfast every year! Tradition!!!
My family Christmas tradition was originally me putting up the tree and lights and then sitting back and letting my son and daughter put all of the ornaments on then having hot chocolate and cookies while sitting by the tree. Now I have my 2 grandchildren decorate the pre- lit tree ( I am grateful for the genius that invented those) after I set it up.
One Christmas tradition we have now is meeting my daughter and her family at the beach after Christmas. He’s a pastor, so it’s hard for them to get away before. It’s cool to cold, but the grands still get in the water!
We always give Christmas pajamas and a new Christmas movie or Christmas book on Christmas Eve. It’s such a wonderful tradition! 🎄❤️🎄
We used to do the same thing with our kiddos until we realized that we owned just about every Christmas movie lol. We still do the Christmas PJs but instead of a new movie we added hot chocolate and popcorn to the gift and pull out an old movie that we have and watch one of those!!! My kids are now college and high school age and they still look forward to this every year!!
I give your blog 5 stars. Also one of our family traditions is watching Christmas movies together and also reading the Christmas story
One of our favorite traditions is to do our own advent calendar with a muffin tin. I put Fun Christmas activities, a service project, candy, or coins in each muffin cup And then cover them with red and White and green construction paper circles. Each day my son gets to pick one out until Christmas 🙂 we love doing this every year and have made so many great memories! He’s 13 now And still loves it too 💙💕🥰
We always watch A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. Our college aged kids look forward to this too!
Never go to befd mad !!!
Driving around looking at Christmas lights!
Blog is a 5!
WHen I was little, my dad and mom would read Christmas story (Luke 2) on Christmas eve, and My brother and I and mom and dad would act it out. It was silly but fun and meaningful. I will never forget the story of our Savior’s birth. And the sweet Christmas eve Tradition, we had till I was way into middle school! Then we took turns reading it, and recalling how we acted the story out in our younger days.
All the families come and we order pizza and the young kids and some adults decorate Christmas cookies. The cookies are a soft sugar cookie cut out. Then when we are all done we play UNO!! We have been doing this for years and years and years!!
While we have so many Christmas traditions, my favorite is having a Birthday Cake for baby Jesus. (yes, amongst all the other sweet treats too) The entire family gathers and sings Happy Birthday and kiddos take care of blowing out the candles.
Two favorite Christmas traditions (among many) is baking about 6-7 different types of our favorite cookies with my daughter and her 3 kids (she’s an okay child so those are our only grands) and then giving away most of them to our local fire stations and police departments. The other one is attending candlelight Christmas Eve service at our church all together (daughter and son-in-love, 3 grands, my husband and me). So sweet to be with them!
After we open gifts we gather the used paper, ball it up and have a paper ball fight. So Fun!!
Our family Christmas tradition is making gingerbread churches while Grammie is reading about Jesus. He is the reason for the season! May you and yours be blessed this hard Christmas 🎄
We leave one “big” present unwrapped (TV, Phone, Bike, etc) and put it out in front of all of the other wrapped presents under tree. On Christmas morning, we film the kids’ reactions as they come down the stairs and see their big gifts. It is so fantastic!!!
We love our traditional Christmas Eve family dinner. Then we listen to music while baking cookies, mini breakfast loafs & muffins for Christmas morning and play board games until we all tire. Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🎅🤶☃️
I always love our annual Christmas Cookie Exchange! Even though our family numbers have declined over the past several years, we continue to hold this 3 weeks before Christmas.
We get the grand kids a few things but most importantly thru out my growing up was what came in the stocking!!
One thing as a
Family we always helped each other wash the dishes after turkey dinner. Us 3 sisters took turns. And we never let mom do any of them. Believe me there were tons of dishes. But it was fun with everybody together
One of our favorite holiday traditions is picking a different area neighborhood every night to drive through to see Christmas lights and sing along to favorite Christmas songs!
My favorite memory on Christmas is having a beautiful cake .
Happy Birthday Jesus ❤️
My sister and I have our grandchildren come to my house to make Reindeer Food for their friends and then we decorate cookies.
One of our Christmas traditions is spending time together as a family just driving around looking at Christmas lights. We bring hot chocolate & play Christmas music.
Every Christmas my husband and I buy the kids a new ornament that pertains to something that child was involved or interested in that year. And every year when we decorate the tree it’s fun to get all of the ornaments out and say “hey, you remember the year when….”
We love to drive around town and look at Christmas lights/decorations. Several years ago, I had the idea for each kid to choose which was their favorite and then they get to deliver a little bag of candy and note to the owner of the house. It’s so much fun!
Your blog is definitely a 5/5!!
I lost my dear husband on June 17 of this year so while our Christmas will seem so different this year we will continue our tradition of gathering Christmas Eve with my sister and her family and my girls and their families to share a meal together and exchange gifts. After much excitement then we will go to a local event called Fantasy in Lights to see and experience the lights and sounds of Christmas.
In grief and through God’s strength the traditions will continue this year though a small emptiness will remain!
We have 3 boys and family time is everything. Christmas eve is the day we have candlelight service and then we bake cookies (for Santa) and a birthday cake (usually its a Sock-it-to-me cake) for Jesus. I let the boys take turns on “flavor/kind” of cake. We then get in our PJ’s and read the story of Jesus and watch its a wonderful life. We eat some of the Cookies we made with hot chocolate. We always go outside and look at the Texas stars after the movie. It’s a tradition I love because the boys (now their wives and our small grandbabies) make/will make Christmas wishes upon a star. So fun/blessed to have traditions and make new ones. Merry Christmas ya’ll.
At Christmas we bake 2 dozen of every kind of cookie and fudge we can think of (or until we get tired). Then we give a variety basket of cookies away to neighbors and family.
My tradition started just eight years ago when our family lost Pop (my father-in-law) to Cancer. He was the pillar of our family, the one who brought us all together, and whose only wish for Christmas was to spend Christmas Eve with his kids (and especially his grandkids). He wanted us to slow down our crazy busy lives and love on each other. He always made sure we kept the TRUE meaning of Christmas in the forefront. He was also the one who lead me to Jesus.
That first Christmas without him was especially difficult. Especially for my mother-in-law who was not only grieving the love of her life but was alone as everyone else in the world was busy running around preparing for the holiday.
I felt lead to do an advent month for her of little presents she could open each day leading up to Christmas and our time together as family. The gifts became something she looked forward to each evening with her cup of tea as she settled in for the night. Her favorites were always the gifts reminding her of Jesus’ unfailing love for her, and also those that celebrated Pop.
This is a tradition that has continued each year, and one I feel Pop would be looking down with his big grin and twinkle in his eye, saying “good job…..and always make time for those you love”
One of our families tradition is getting my grandchildren a special ornament every year for their tree. One day they will have lots of ornaments for their own tree with special memories from their Papa and Nana.
Baking cookies, Christmas movies, games and so much more! From my side to my husbands and our traditions combined! All memories created are my favorites! When it comes down to it all, we have just each other as a family and Jesus Christ as our savior! That’s all we really need!
On Christmas Eve, We all open one present and it’s ur matching pajamas, a movie, popcorn and hot chocolate. We all watch the movie together and we also do all the baking and family fun.
My mom read this book to us when we were kids and so I’m really excited to watch the movie!
I love you and your family and look forward to each of your blogs and posts. You are the best and so strong. Only God!
A new ornament every year. My mom started this tradition with us and I have continued it on with my kids & godchildren. We love opening the box every year and reminiscing on the ornaments as we hang them.
Wearing Christmas pajamas on Christmas morning and getting a new pair every year
Even though my kids are grown, 23-40 years old, we still leave a cookie out for Santa (and carrots for his reindeer) to eat after he delivers their gifts and we make sure that Santa takes at least one bite out of each cookie…no playing favorites😁.
We have many Christmas traditions. Each year when our children Lu ed at home, they were allowed to carefully select a new ornament. They often chose one that reflected their life that year or a favorite memory. Piano lessons, new driver, etc. when they were 18, they had enough to decorate a small tree in their dorms. The ornaments now decorate their own trees. As they have had children, we are still getting each grandchild a start on their ornament collections.
Every year our Elf will bring the kids a new set of Christmas pajamas along with the fixins for a family movie night. We all get ready for bed and snuggle up to watch a Christmas movie!
Me and my kiddos always decorate the tree together and make cookies . Family is everything to me I wouldn’t miss these times for anything❤️
My daughter was born on Christmas Day 14 years ago. We have many traditions. Every year we buy reusable cups and fill them with lotion, chapstick, hand sanitizer, and some gift cards. We place all the cups in the tree and draw number to see who picks first. Everyone gets a cup and some goodies to take home. Then we have dinner and celebrate my daughter’s birthday! 🎂
Our Christmas tradition that carried over to my grandchildren is one new Christmas ornament to be opened early [when the tree goes up] and Christmas Eve a pair of new Christmas Pajamas so pictures Christmas morning will be fun.
Blog is 5 🌟
My family makes Swedish meatballs for Christmas Eve. And we also have lefse which is made around Thanksgiving.
We would get our matching pjs on and make gingerbread houses and bake goodie. Our kids are all in their 30s now but we have 1 granddaughter that we have raised since birth, she is 15. I try to get my kids to stay at our house on Christmas Eve, that’s one I’ll never give up. Thank you for showing us all what grace looks like in a middle of a storm. Prayers are still being said for you and the kids🤍🧡
So many special family traditions – Advent wreath with nightly prayers together at dinner, my daughters & I make their Grama’s Christmas Bread & Christmas Cookies for Santa every Christmas Eve even if older now. We as well celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas where we put an ornament on each specific day, give a small gift and/or act of service to each other. 💗
We always have Chinese for Christmas Eve! The Best Christmas Pageant Ever book was a special Christmas tradition when I was a kid. We got the chance to see the play at Crown Center in Kansas City a few years ago. Our family is so excited for this movie!!!! Christmas Blessings❤️
I love watching Christmas movies! I love the spirit of Christmas, the smiles and time with my son. I love driving around looking at lights, going to Christmas concerts and all things Christmas. When the church had midnight services we would go home after and open presents, eat what I had warming in crockpots and visit till the early hours. We would sleep for a few hours and get up in time to watch the parade.
My favorite tradition is attending the Christmas Eve candlelight service with my husband, daughter, son-in-love, and 3 beautiful grandchildren!

Every year our kids look forward to finishing thanksgiving dinner so we can turn the christmas music on, get the ornaments out and decorate and make pizzels together. They start talking about it usually as soon as halloween is finished.
Every year since I was little my family gets together and we spend about 13 hours making hard tack candy to give to all our family and friends for Christmas.
Our favorite Christmas tradition is going to Hobby Lobby and having my kids each pick out their favorite ornament to add to our tree. Something that I started when my oldest child was born and now, we have 3 kids, and they have several years’ worth of ornaments with the date on them.
I started this tradition 5 years ago, but it really goes back to when I was a little girl…My most favorite Christmas story is Rudolph and I watch it every year! When I was a little girl, we would gather as a family every year.. then as we grew older, my brothers would lose in, but not I… when I married, my dad would call me every year to make sure I was watching! I watched every year with my two sons who lost interest about age 10.. Sad, we lost my dad about 7 years ago but I still hear him calling me to make sure I am watching.. now, since my first grandson was born 5 years ago, we have Rudolph Night at Grandma’s where we gather, have fun snacks and fun Rudolph things, turn off lights and cuddle up to watch. Now we are joined by my granddaughter and it has become a family tradition ❤️❤️ Even my grown sons/daughters in law join us in the fun too!! Love Love Love Rudolph night at Grandma’s❤️🥰❤️🥰

I love everything about Christmas but really enjoy baking and shopping with family! My husband passed away 13 months ago so it’s just not the same for my daughter and I but we are still celebrating Jesus and trying to continue the tradition me we enjoyed with him!
We have the 12 days of Christmas glasses and each person grabs a glass, we have to pair up with some and We sing the 12 days of Christmas together every year.
One of our favorite family traditions is making homemade cinnabuns for Christmas morning. Going to Christmas mass, dinner and then coming home to put on our cozy Christmas jammies and watching christmas 🎅 movies
One of our favorite Christmas traditions is for the family to get together and watch the Polar Express. This is extremely special to us, considering we were blessed to be able to take he Polar Express train ride in Bryson City, NC on Christmas Eve night. We took our punched golden tickets from the train ride and put them in clear glass ornaments for our Christmas tree, and we hang our silver bells together on the Christmas tree… because you always have to believe! So we get together, have hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies… Just like they did in the movie and on our train ride.
Our family has many Christmas traditions from going to a drive through light show to watching movies and baking cookies together, but my favorites have to be seeing Santa drive through our neighborhood on the firetruck and teaching the kids about the real meaning of Christmas. So much wonder on their faces for both.
The candlelit Christmas Eve service has always been a family tradition and still is! Going to a movie on Christmas Day is also something we would always do as a family. Lots of fun traditions but never forget what the true meaning of Christmas is!
We have so many traditions, that start at the beginning of December and go all month long. We love to ride around and look at the lights. We have done some drive through light displays and just looking at houses as well. While looking at the lights we always have to go for ice cream.
We (hubby and I)have been trying to come up with our own traditions since the kids are grown and busy. We try to squeeze in a day of baking here and there with Christmas music and enjoying the time we can together with the kids.
My favorite Christmas tradition is white elephant exchanges. But not just any white elephant gifts…. Hilarious joke gifts!! What a better way to spend time with family & friends than laughing your patooties off!?! Right!?!?
We make cookies and candy together as a family. We gift it to family and friends!
We have a few favorite family traditions we’ve curated over the year. One our favorites is our homemade “Polar Express”. It began because we could afford to take the kids on the actual polar express experience. Another homeschooling mom had created printable Polar Express tickets free to print. My husband got the van ready with hot cocoa’s and I got the kids in their Jammie’s. My husband got a hat on and a coat and belted through the door calling “All aboard the Polar Express”.
He even went so far as to punch the kids messages in their own Polar Express golden ticket when they arrived at the van door.
Years later we could afford the actual Polar Express experience and our kids loved our homemade one much better.
We have continued with the tradition. The kids are getting older now but it’s a beautiful way to unify the family each Christmas season. They still look forward to it each year and it’s a constant reminder that Gods with our family always…even in the difficult chapters. Gods blessings to you and your family this holiday season!
I lam in awe of you and your family. You represent real moms and make me feel seen. It’s not easy working, taking care of a home, and being a good mom, but you show that you don’t have to be perfect to be a great mom. I have three children and the holidays are our favorite time. we have created traditions that I hope they will pass down with their children. Our favorite is the holiday pajamas, a personal ornaments and a Christmas story on Christmas Eve. I’m not sure who loves them more, my kids or me. Excited for more traditions to become part of our memories. Good Bless you and your family!
My last year of teaching was in 1997, and I received a fruitcake from some student that I don’t remember. My brother made fun of me for that fruitcake, so it Christmas 1998, I gave the fruitcake to him. Funny thing, but in 1999, he gave the fruitcake back to me, only for him to receive it again in the year 2000. This had gone on since that time and every year it goes back-and-forth. We write our name and the year on the box. Our pact is that whoever dies first, the surviving sibling has to give the fruitcake to the funeral Director to be placed in the crematorium. And to tell, of course, the entire area to get far, far away is that place is gonna blow up from a well fermented fruitcake! My mailman even now asks if it’s my turn to “give or receive!” Fire in the hole!!!
Every year my husband and I would attend the candlelight service at our church. After church our son and grandchildren would come over for dinner and open gifts. Christmas Day we went to our son’s home for Christmas dinner and time with our grandchildren. Jesus welcomed my husband home 3.5 years ago. God has blessed me with sweet friends that attend the candlelight service with me and love me through the memory tears ♥️
Our favorite tradition is to open new pjs on Christmas Eve and enjoy hot cocoa, snacks and Christmas movies before we put out the cookies and milk for Santa.
My favorite tradition is my grown sons and their families spending Christmas Day at our house. They always prefer breakfast foods for dinner on Christmas Day. I’ve loved reading others Christmas traditions in your post too.
My favorite tradition is to watch Christmas movies all day on a Saturday with my nieces, nephews and husband. Drinking hot cocoa. Making cookies and sharing stories and memories.
Talking about the reason for the season
We love driving around looking at Christmas lights and drive thru displays as well. When I was a kid every year in Chillicothe a couple displayed a huge display of the Christmas houses from their collection. It was massive! After the couple died their kids carry on the tradition.
Caroling for shut ins, family dinner then Christmas Eve service together!
Our family have 12 months of Christmas. I plan an experience each month for my boys and I. It can be as simple as going to a movie or baseball game but we do something “special” once a month! I usually display it for them to see on Christmas morning.
My favorite was the whole family gathering at my parents Christmas morning and cooking breakfast for everyone. Even though they have been gone many years my sisters and our families carry on that tradition.
We meet at my dad’s for dinner and share family stories…8 siblings, 5 brothers and 3 sisters along with spouses. A joyful time.
I have several favorite traditions, one of them is our girls family baking day. We make all sorts of goodies and then split them up, keep some for ourselves and gift the rest to family and friends. This year will be our 10th year!
Another favorite thing we do is gift a Christmas jar to a local family in need. We got the idea from the Christmas Jar movie several years ago.
Our favorite family tradition is taking our only grandson to see all the Christmas lights around the area! Prayers to you and your family, I know the holidays are going to be hard without your sweet Q! ❤️🙏🙏❤️
We make a whole evening of driving around and looking at Christmas decorations. We also do PJ’s on Christmas Eve. We’ve used a soft, felt advent calendar themed with birth of Jesus scene, which comes together through December (24). Then there is a beautiful book advent that has smaller books, some with carols, some with Christmas stories. We do one each night, or did when the kids were small. Now with grandchildren coming up, looking forward to do this again.
This i have done twice with my three older kiddos and spouses. I do a scavenger hunt throughout our neighborhood! I give them each a first clue and it will lead to something they like to do…then the next clue is taped somewhere on or near the building…(I had to do it at night!) the place they found it at would have a gift card to that place with another clue! I didn’t put the actual gift card in case the clue was taken or blown away..at the end they had to find it at our house and the envelope had all the gift cards in it! They were racing each other to see who got back first! They had a great time and good working together!
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is loading the van up on Christmas eve and driving around to look at lights. Then, on the way home, we grab Chinese food. We stuff our faces while we watch Christmas cartoons together.
Favorite family tradition is having all my grands and great grands over to bake Christmas cookie goodie bags, with gloves and hat to go hand out to the homeless!
My favorite Christmas tradition is the atmosphere. I absolutely love the decorations and the feelings that the season brings. I love having time off away from everything just to spend with my family!!!
Before my son, who passed away at the age of 16 in 2008, him and his older sister would always sleep together on Christmas Eve.
Favorite Christmas traditions growing up, were making Christmas cookies with my Mom and all our Family piling in to Grandmas House on Christmas Eve, and making Christmas dinner singing Christmas music, then exchanging gifts with one another.
Our tradition is matching pjs n waiting at the top of the stairs together excited waiting to see what Santa brought while mom (me) snaps a pic then everyone runs down n opens!
Every year we make homemade roll out Christmas cookies and decorate by hand. I raised my children as a single mother and this has been a yearly tradition with my first, my daughter, when she was old enough to cut out her own cookies (with a little help 😉) and has continued yearly. Everything is homemade! Now, her husband has joined the tradition…she’s 35! 🎄
One of our Christmas traditions is the one my polish grandmother started and just to honor and remember those times we follow them by making pierogy on Christmas Eve. She used to make them, have us all over to eat and we’d all go to midnight mass together. Miss those times ❤️ Merry Christmas time to you and your sweet family.
My tradition as a child was to try to stay as late as I could so I could try to see Santa. I now have a family of 4, with 2 little ones and our newest Christmas tradition as a family, will be to make Christmas cookies.
I have baked my whole life and have a list of Christmas goodies that I make every year! It is so fun to pkg them up in cute little boxes and give away to whoever God’s Spirit leads me to give.
Our favorite Christmas tradition is inviting one new family for Christmas Eve dinner! This could be family, a school family, neighbour or just a friend or someone who has no one to celebrate Christmas with! We love having people over on Christmas Eve!
My children are small, 7 yrs, 5 yrs and also a 5 month old. Our traditions are making homemade ornaments, driving around to look at lights and baking gingerbread cookies! Love the Christmas season and thankful to know the true meaning! Merry Christmas to you and your family! ❤️
