Okay mamas, I want to know! Do you like Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies or Oatmeal Raisin Cookies?? My family tends to lean towards Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, but I like them both! This recipe is perfect because you can make it with either! I bet you even have all the ingredients in your pantry!

The way I make these cookies is perfect for making both raisin and chocolate chip at the same time, but keeping them separate! So you will have both kinds for your whole family to enjoy! It is so easy, and the cookies are downright divine!!

Oatmeal Cookies

Even Fisher thinks they are delicious and he doesn't usually like oatmeal cookies! So you know they are yummy!

This recipe is perfect if you are going to have a crowd! The recipe makes about 40 cookies! But don't let that deter you if you are making them for your family of 5. Ready to be MOM OF THE YEAR? Send the leftovers to school with your kids, or take them to practice pickups! I mean what kid doesn't love a mom that comes with yummy sweets?!

If you really want to set yourself apart, you can even easily make them themed! Just grab a bag of the holiday m&m's! Or if you have a bag of the Christmas ones left over, use the green ones for St. Patrick's Day cookies! The possibilities are endless!

When I made these today to get ready for Oatmeal Cookie Day coming up on March 19th, I got to have Fisher as my official taste tester and assistant! Is it just me, or does it make your mama heart smile too when you get to spend some quality time with one of your kiddos while making something you know the whole family will enjoy? Because man, it sure makes mine smile!

I absolutely love having 4 kids, even though some people may think I am crazy for it 🤪 Quintin always had the best comeback to people when they would say the typical “you know how kids are made right??” He would always follow up with an equally inappropriate, but very comical response! My cheeks would heat, but whoever he said it to would change their tune very fast. And before I knew it we were all laughing!

That was Q, quick-witted. And Fisher got that priceless trait from his Dad. I have always loved getting to see Quintin in my kids, and now that he is gone, I love it even more. It really is true that we live on through our kids. And I thank the Lord for that everyday! What a beautiful thing to see a loved one you lost shining through the people whom they invested so much of their life. If you are new to my blog, you can read more about the sudden loss of my best friend and husband HERE.

Even when the grief hits hard, I look for a little bit of Q in our four kids. Although the grief is impossible to bear most of the time. It is important for me to remember that love and wisdom never truly fade—they live on in the people we touch. When someone we’ve lost shines through those they invested in, it’s a testament to the depth of their impact. It’s like they’re still here, woven into the lives of those they nurtured. ❤️‍🩹 Miss you Q

Okay, now back to cookies. Y'all know I have gotten many rude comments about talking about grief and then swapping to recipes. But that is the thing about grief, it hits every aspect of your life. I always feel it, I always miss him; but I do still have my family to think about so I MUST KEEP GOING. And every step I take to keep going is strength from the Lord. Without Him, we are nothing!

Okay. Cookies.

Let's grab the ingredients and get baking these yummy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip (and Raisin) Cookies!

How To Make Oatmeal Cookies

How to make Oatmeal Cookies: a step by step guide

Heat oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, blend shortening with sugar, adding sugars gradually.

Add eggs, milk and vanilla; beat well.

Gradually Add flour, salt and baking soda; beat well. Add vanilla extract and stir

Stir in oats. (I used my hands to get it mixed well easily!) But you could also used a mixer like this on low.

If you are making all chocolate chip or all raisins, you can stir them in now. If you want to do half and half like I did. Only add them to the top right before scooping the cookies!

Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet (lined with parchment paper)

Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown. Also, peep my adorable Easter Crewneck designed by my daughter Ella!

Remove from oven and let stand for 5 minutes.

Place cookies on a wire rack to finish cooling.

Yields: 42 cookies.

Enjoy!
