Parades, parties, fireworks… New Years is such a fun holiday! And it is a much needed holiday, a fresh start; a clean slate! There is something to be said for putting the previous year in the past and taking a step forward into the new year. As much as I don't want to start a new year without Q, I am ready to close the door on 2024. It has been a very difficult year in the Conway house, and I am sure you have faced trials this year as well. So take a step with me; join me in hoping and praying for a great new year!

With the new year holiday comes more traditions. I have heard of many fun traditions for resolutions and change; one friend of mine picks something they want to leave in the previous year, writes it on a piece of paper and throws it in the fire! Another friend of mine writes her resolution on top of each week in her planner for the new year.

This year, I am going to meet my goals with baby steps and a whole lot of prayer. After all, I know I need strength from our Lord to make it through this year and every year!

Other fun traditions are centered around food, my specialty! Black eyed peas, cornbread, pork and GREENS!

For our greens this New Year, I am making stuffed cabbage rolls.

These Cabbage rolls are so tasty, and will be the perfect addition to your New Year's table!

I bet you already have most of the ingredients needed in your pantry!

All you need is Rice, an egg, Cabbage, Ground beef, ground sausage, Tomato soup, canned tomatoes, cayenne pepper, and a few more kitchen staples!

Here is how I make them!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 Tbsp parsley
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 can of tomato soup
  • 1 can of tomatoes
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 large head of Cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • I egg
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup minute rice

Directions:

  1. Cut off bottom of cabbage & boil in a pot for 2 minutes
  2. In a skillet like this one here, mix 1 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp minced garlic, 3 tbsp parsley, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 can tomato soup, 1 can of tomatoes, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, & ¾ tsp black pepper
  3. Put this tomato mix in a 9×13 pan
  4. Prep filling in a separate bowl (1 lb ground beef, 1 lb sausage, 1 egg, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 cup Minute Rice)

Of course I use my favorite meat masher to mix up all this! Yes, you can use it for more than just browning meat! You can get yours here!

5. Stuff the cabbage leaves with ½ cup of raw meat mixture per roll

    6. Bake at 350 for 1 hour & 15 minutes

    ENJOY

I hope you and yours love these New Years cabbage rolls!
