We all want to be a fun mom, what better way than to let your kids get messy in the kitchen making some yummy Valentine's Day treats?? This roundup of Valentine’s Day Recipes Your Kids Will Love (and help you make!) is perfect for you! A fun mom, and making things your kiddo will love? I call that a total Crazy Busy Mama WIN!!

Let's be real, kids love doing whatever you are doing! (looking at you toddler mamas!) They also love getting messy doing real things! Have you ever tried to make scrambled eggs without letting your toddler crack an egg? It is impossible! So this Valentine's Day let them participate! I mean, just look at my sweet Ella as a Crazy Busy Kiddo! That smile while cooking with mama was worth every spill and accidental egg shell.

After all, Valentine’s Day is all about love, and what better way to celebrate than by spending quality time in the kitchen with your little ones? Or even your not so little ones! (looking at you mamas of teens!)

No matter what stage of motherhood you are in, cooking with your kiddos has so many benefits! No one wants their child to leave home and not even know how to a grilled cheese! Kale had a project his senior year where he was supposed to make a video of him “adult-ing” and one thing about my kiddos is they know how to cook! From very young we got them involved in the kitchen! So he did a video of him browning some ground beef, and of course he was using my favorite kitchen utensil!

Cooking with your kiddos isn't just about making yummy treats, although this round up if full of those, it is about connection and bonding! So get your kids involved and just embrace the mess and enjoy the time together! After all, we will be cooking with our grandkids before we know it! It will feel like the blink of an eye I am sure, every stage has! It feels like just yesterday that I was buckling my kids into carseats headed to playdates. But my diaper bag days are behind me and now half of my children are driving themselves (and the other two)! So start the tradition of making holiday treats together now! You won't regret a single second of time spent connecting with your kids!

Okay, do y'all think I am crazy? Voluntarily bringing mess into the kitchen? You might be thinking, ‘phew what a pain that will be to clean up!' Yes, you likely will have to clean batter off of your cabinets from your toddler getting excited about coking with mama, but they would likely gladly help “clean” too! But whether you are a mama of toddlers, or teens; I have a few tips to help make your time spent in the kitchen with your kids more enjoyable and maybe a little less messy!

Cooking with Kids: Tips and Hacks

Crazy Busy Mama style tips and tricks to make time spent cooking with your kiddos more enjoyable (and cleaner) for everyone!

  1. Clean your kitchen before! Yes, this may seem a little pointless since your kiddos are about to make it messy; BUT starting clean will help make cleanup so much easier! And if you even have a mostly empty dishwasher, even more easier! You just want to start with a clean sink and stuff put away so you only have this activity to clean up!
  2. Line your counters. Get some parchment paper and line your counters! I used to even use those plastic table cloths from the Dollar Store to line my counter. I would just use a little masking tape to secure it to the counter, then I would let it fall over the edge of the counter and cover my lower cabinets. So if wiping down your cabinets is something you want to avoid, give this hack a try!
  3. Half your recipe. Kids of all ages love a little independence! And independence is such an important trait that will benefit them for the rest of their lives! So, half your recipe, and you make one half while your kiddos make their own!
  4. Include a friend. As sad as it makes me to say this, teens don't always want to spend quality time with their mamas. They go through phases just like all of us do! This doesn't mean you have to miss out on this specialty time! Let them invite a friend, and make it fun for them! Let them pick the music and set the atmosphere to be a place they will have fun! And enjoy getting to know your kiddo's friend! (psst.. see those cute glasses below? They are shatterproof!!)

After all, Valentine’s Day is about love, and there’s nothing sweeter than sharing time (and treats!) with the ones you love most. So, grab your aprons, roll up your sleeves, and get ready for a delightful kitchen adventure filled with love, laughter, and, of course, delicious homemade goodies!
